Practical measurement of the energy resolution for meV-resolved inelastic X-ray scattering

چکیده
Several different ways of measuring the energy resolution for meV-resolved inelastic X-ray scattering (IXS) are compared: using from poly(methyl methacrylate), PMMA, borosilicate glass (Tempax), and powder diffraction aluminium. All these methods provide a reasonable first approximation to resolution, but, also, in all cases, contributions appear over some range transfers. Over ±15 meV transfer there is good agreement between measurements PMMA Tempax at low temperature, room-temperature aluminium, so we consider this be indication true our ∼1.3 spectrometer. The wider self-consistently determined momentum sample dependence measured response. Tempax, their on then quantitatively investigated. resulting data allow us determine multi-analyzer array efficiently single scan. importance procedure demonstrated by showing that results analysis spectrum changed properly deconvolved function. impact radiation damage also discussed.

Ultrahigh-Energy-Resolution Inelastic X-Ray Scattering
Very-high-energy-resolution measurements using X-rays can be achieved by extreme backreflection (Bragg angle close to 90°) f rom perfect crystals. This technique allowed the development of the instrument INELAX for inelastic scattering experiments at the HARWI wiggler at DORIS, DESY Hamburg. Recently, a high energy resolution of 9 meV could be achieved, and the instrument proved to be an excell...
متن کاملInelastic X-ray scattering with 0.75 meV resolution at 25.7 keV using a temperature-gradient analyzer.
The use of temperature-gradient analyzers for non-resonant high-resolution inelastic X-ray scattering is investigated. The gradient compensates for geometrical broadening of the energy resolution by adjusting the lattice spacing of the analyzer crystal. Applying a ∼ 12 mK temperature gradient across a 9.5 cm analyzer, resolutions of 0.75 (2) meV FWHM at 25.7 keV for Si(13 13 13) and 1.25(2) meV...
متن کاملX-ray induced dimerization of cinnamic acid: Time-resolved inelastic X-ray scattering study
A classic example of solid-state topochemical reactions is the ultraviolet-light induced photodimerization of α-trans-cinnamic acid (CA). Here, we report the first observation of an X-ray-induced dimerization of CA and monitor it in situ using nonresonant inelastic X-ray scattering spectroscopy (NRIXS). The time-evolution of the carbon core-electron excitation spectra shows the effects of two X...
متن کاملHigh-efficiency high-energy-resolution spectrometer for inelastic X-ray scattering
A nine-element analyzer system for inelastic X-ray scattering has been designed and constructed. Each individual analyzer crystal is carefully aligned with an inverse joystick goniometer. For the analyzers silicon wafers with 100 mm diameter are spherically bent to 1 or 0.85 m radius, respectively. Additionally, an analyzer with an extra small radius of 0.182 m and diameter of 100 mm was constr...

A further development of a focusing monochromator concept for X-ray energy resolution of 0.1 meV and below is presented. Theoretical analysis of several optical layouts based on this concept was supported by numerical simulations performed in the "Synchrotron Radiation Workshop" software package using the physical-optics approach and careful modeling of partially-coherent synchrotron (undulator...
